Essential agricultural products maintain export growth momentum

According to the General Department of Customs, in the first half of May 2024, Vietnam's total import and export value reached USD 31.9 billion, an increase of USD 2.29 billion, equivalent to 7.7% compared to the previous period.

Total import-export turnover from the beginning of 2024 will reach USD 270.82 billion, an increase of USD 38.87 billion, equivalent to 16.8%, compared to the same period in 2023. In particular, the total import-export value of enterprises FDI reached USD 182.8 billion, an increase of 13.9%.

Due to a balance of trade deficit of USD 2.63 billion in the first half of May, the accumulated trade surplus is USD 6.36 billion.

In the first half of May, the total value of exported goods reached USD 14.64 billion, down USD 1.28 billion, equivalent to 8% compared to the previous period.

By the end of May 15, Vietnam's total export value reached USD 138.59 billion, an increase of USD 19.17 billion, equivalent to 16.1% over the same period in 2023.

Some products decreased sharply, such as iron and steel by USD 256 million; machinery, equipment, tools, and spare parts by USD 218 million; Phones and components by USD 187 million; and Timber and wood products by USD 108 million.

Vietnam's essential agricultural products recorded positive export turnover in the first half of May. Of which, fruits and vegetables reached USD 332 million, up 43% over the same period last year; rice USD 285 million, up 45%; coffee USD 175 million, up 6.2%; cashew nuts USD 171 million, up 27%; pepper USD 59 million, an increase of 52%.

Since the beginning of the year, seafood exports exceeded USD 3 billion; fruits and vegetables reached more than USD 2.2 billion; coffee reached more than USD 2.67 billion; Cashew nuts reached more than USD 1.33 billion; and rice exports reached more than USD 2.32 billion.
