On the occasion of the annual International Day of Migratory Birds on October 14, recently the Nature and Biodiversity Conservation Agency (Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment) coordinated with the Vietnam Wild Bird Research and Conservation Branch and Xuan Thuy National Park (Nam Dinh) to organize a discussion to enhance the conservation of wild and migratory birds in Vietnam.

International Migratory Bird Day was established to raise global awareness of migratory birds and the need for international cooperation to conserve them. The event was attended by state management and law enforcement agencies and leading experts in bird conservation, organizations working in the field of wildlife conservation, the media and local communities.

The event includes many meaningful activities and discussions on enhancing wild and migratory bird conservation in Vietnam, a bird photography contest at Xuan Thuy National Park and a photo exhibition of migratory birds and wild birds to raise people's awareness and connect conservation units. This is to effectively implement Directive 04/CT-TTg of the Prime Minister on several urgent tasks and solutions to conserve wild and migratory birds in Vietnam in the coming time.

At the seminar, speakers and delegates openly discussed the threats and challenges in the current conservation of wild birds and migratory birds. At the same time, it highlights many bright spots and efforts of organizations, state management agencies, law enforcement, and the community as well as future actions and solutions.

On this occasion, the organizing committee awarded prizes to the winning works in the wild and migratory bird photography contest at Xuan Thuy National Park. Accordingly, the first prize belongs to author Ngoc Sam Thuong, the 2-second prize belonged to author Nguyen Manh Hiep and author Nguyen Thuy Linh and The 3 third prize went to authors Nguyen Xuan Nguyen, Le Duc Hien and Duong Thi Hoa with photos of wild and migratory birds at Xuan Thuy National Park.

Vietnam is considered one of the areas where wild, migratory and endemic birds are concentrated in the world, creating important natural values, contributing to biodiversity conservation, tourism development and building and promoting the country's image.

Currently, Vietnam is recorded to have more than 900 bird species, of which 99 species need conservation attention, 10 species are critically endangered, 17 endangered species, 24 endangered species and 48 near-threatened species. Vietnam is also identified as one of the most important areas in the network of flight routes for migratory birds and endemic bird species, with 63 globally important bird areas and 7 endemic bird areas.
