Dowa to build an exhibition center for wood industry

(VAN) Dong Nai Wood and Handicraft Association (Dowa) met on January 15 to review its activities in 2021 and set a development plan for 2022.

Attending the meeting were representatives from departments, agencies, local authorities, Binh Duong Timber Association, and members of Dowa...

Mr. Le Xuan Quan, Chairman of Dowa said in his opening speech that the complicated Covid-19 pandemic in 2021 had impacted not only the wood industry but also other sectors, especially those in Dong Nai Province which was identified as the epicenter of the pandemic.

But with all business members’ best efforts, the wood export sector had so far grossed very impressive achievements, contributing to the development of Dong Nai Province as well as Vietnam's wood industry, he said.

"We are very enthusiastic to develop Dong Nai wood industry. For the next term, the Association's Executive Board has basically outlined a strategy to develop and promote international trade, including the establishment of a concentrated Exhibition Center which is very essential for international trade development,” according to Quan.

“It is expected that after the construction of Long Thanh Airport is completed, Dowa will build a specialized exhibition center and an electronic trading platform for wooden furniture. Dong Nai will be one of the new destinations to breathe a new life to the province in implementing the Prime Minister's Directive related to the plan that will increase the import-export turnover of the wood industry from USD10 billion to USD20 billion by 2025,” Quan said.

According to Dowa, in 2021, the Association had 154 members of various areas from supplying raw materials to manufacturing and processing wood products. In the same year, Dowa started to implement a project on producing and processing sustainable forest products in Dong Nai Province by 2025 and cooperated with enterprises to guide them in piloting and classifying criteria for processing and exporting.

In particular, in 2021, although the wood industry experienced many volatilities due to the Covid-19 pandemic, wood enterprises made their best efforts to achieve impressive results. Last year, export turnover of wood and wood products in Dong Nai Province reached USD1.86 billion, up 10.8% compared to 2020 (ranked fourth in Dong Nai’s and second in the country's group of wood products with the highest export turnover).

With Dong Nai’s advantages in the wood processing industry, Dowa aims to attract attention of the “wood world” to the province. Dowa Executive Board also aspires to become a reputable non-profit organization in Dong Nai as well as the whole country; at the same time, contributing to the sustainable development of the province’s wood processing industry in particular and the country in general...

At the meeting, Dowa awarded certificates to its new members.
