(VAN) The largest seaport in Dong Nai province is rapidly completing its final preparations for operations and is ready to welcome its first vessels.

On December 24, 2009, the Prime Minister issued Decision No. 2190/QD-TTg to approve the development plan for Vietnam's seaport system. Phuoc An Port is classified as a Group 5 seaport, designated as a national comprehensive port and hub in the region, with Phuoc An Petroleum Port Investment and Operation Joint Stock Company (PAP) as the project's investor.

According to the Vietnam Maritime Administration (Ministry of Transport), the total cargo throughput at seaports reached 111.614 million tons in the first two months of 2024, marking an 8% increase compared to the corresponding period in 2023.

Various types of cargo also exhibited growth trends, with exports reaching an estimated 28.684 million tons (an increase of 8%), imports reaching 33.884 million tons (an increase of 16%), domestic cargo reaching 48.593 million tons (an increase of 4%), and transshipment cargo reaching 454 thousand tons.

Cargo volume through seaports in the first two months of 2024 increased compared to the corresponding period in 2023, with January 2024 showing a notable increase of 43%.

The throughput of containerized cargo reached 4.054 million TEUs in the first two months of 2024, marking an increase of 27% compared to the corresponding period in 2023. This volume includes 1.323 million TEUs of exports (an increase of 20%), 1.252 million TEUs of imports (an increase of 19%), and 1.478 million TEUs of domestic cargo (an increase of 40%).

Vietnam also reported significant growth in cargo throughput in January 2024. Namely, cargo volume in the first month of 2024 reached 68.716 million tons (excluding non-discharged transshipment cargo at ports), marking an increase of 43% compared to January 2023. Containerized cargo volume reached 2.4 million TEUs, marking an increase of 52% compared to the corresponding period in 2023.

According to the Vietnam Maritime Administration, the significant growth in January 2024 can be attributed to the reduced cargo volume in January 2023, a Lunar New Year month. Conversely, January 2024, which is a month prior to the Lunar New Year, saw increased cargo activities in preparation for the festival.
