With the goal of environmental protection and sustainable development, Dong Nai is urgently promoting the relocation of more than 3,000 livestock farms out of areas where livestock farming is not allowed. This province’s current focus is shifting to applying high technology and biosecurity measures in livestock production and waste treatment procedures in response to the matter of ensuring a sustainable environment.
According to Dong Nai Livestock Association, in the current global livestock farming trend, not only domestic but foreign enterprises are also gradually shifting livestock farming investment to international regions.
“In order to invest in implementing a biosafe livestock farming model, it is very difficult to have a large area of land from a hundred to thousands of hectares. However, we know that some countries such as Australia and Canada are ready to call for investment in agriculture and create favorable conditions for investors to develop livestock and crop farms in their countries,” said Nguyen Tri Cong, Chairman of Dong Nai Livestock Association.
The Chairman of the Dong Nai Livestock Association also confirms a harsh reality: There is no more land for livestock farming in Dong Nai, and the province is also paying great attention to environmental protection. Many farm owners in Dong Nai are therefore looking for land from neighboring provinces to change their livestock farming areas.
Several members of the association have also shifted to investing in cattle, pig, and chicken farms, as well as large-scale crop farming models in Saskatchewan province (Canada. The models are operating effectively.
"We recently received a delegation from the Consulate General of Canada to Vietnam and the Saskatchewan Provincial Office. The delegation works with our association to discuss and share the most advanced livestock farming methods to reduce carbon emissions in livestock farming. Our association will soon bring members and enterprises to Saskatchewan to learn more about technical advances in livestock farming as well as the livestock investment environment in this province," said Chairman Cong.
Tran Thi Thu Thuy is the owner of a pig farm with a scale of approximately 3,000 pigs in Trung Hoa commune (Trang Bom district, Dong Nai province). She has been in the livestock farming business for over 20 years but now struggles due to many difficulties in recent years. The devastation caused by African swine fever forces her pig farm to temporarily cease operation. After learning about the trend of investing in livestock farming internationally, she sees the advantages, and she is ready to try her hand in a new environment.
“I have deposited money and made preparations to invest in opening a pig farm in Canada because I see that they have large lands there so the farms are far apart and the farming environment is safe, so I feel secure. It would actually be very difficult for small-scale farmers like me to maintain this livestock farming profession if we persistently stay in Vietnam,” said Thuy.
NBee Feed Company Limited, a member of Dong Nai Livestock Association, is currently developing a partnership with Saskatchewan province of Canada to explore new markets. According to Nguyen Dinh Ngoc, General Director of NBee Feed Company Limited, the business plans to provide this market with agricultural raw materials to expand the production of animal feed as there are many Vietnamese livestock farms in Canada.
Canada is one of the countries with strengths in agriculture, providing food to the world thanks to its developed agriculture and livestock industry. This country is also among the top 5 countries in the world in food production and export as a pioneer in innovation and application of technology in agricultural production. This opens up a lot of potential for cooperation with Vietnam, thereby making Canada a destination to attract investment in agricultural production specifically livestock farming.
