The launching ceremony of the architectural design idea contest for the Mekong Delta Agricultural Museum was held by the People's Committee of Vinh Long province on June 12 at the Memorial Area of late Prime Minister Vo Van Kiet, Vung Liem district.
According to the organizing committee, the Mekong Delta plays an essential role in the country's economy, with two main economic pillars being agriculture and fisheries. Vietnam has more than 160 museums with many levels and specialties, affiliated with many ministries and branches. But no place has yet built an agricultural museum.
Therefore, building an agricultural museum in the Mekong Delta is significant for the region and Vinh Long province.
When in operation, the museum will not only be a place to preserve the beauty of agricultural culture but also a place to honor Vietnamese farmers throughout the process of building and developing the country.
The competition aims to select the optimal plan for construction investment. Organize an agricultural museum for detailed planning on a 1/500 scale and construction investment projects.
Find a conceptual design plan for the museum's architectural work, creating an essential cultural institution worthy of the role and position of the agricultural industry.
The museum set a goal to promote the values of agricultural and cultural heritage in the Mekong Delta, serving the public's needs for tourism, study, scientific research, cultural enjoyment, and promotion of current farm products, etc. The museum also implements the will of late Prime Minister Vo Van Kiet during his lifetime.
The contest has a total prize value of nearly VND 2 billion, including one first prize, one second prize, and one third prize for prestigious organizations and individuals in creative design consulting, operating domestically and internationally. The organizing committee will announce the results in October 2024.
