Cooperation to raise awareness of pesticides for farmers

(VAN) Department of Plant Protection and Adama Vietnam Co., Ltd. will deploy 50 safe pesticide use models on 100 hectares and train 20,000 farmers until 2025.

On March 22, the Department of Plant Protection signed a cooperation agreement with Adama Vietnam Co., Ltd. This is the next step in the commitment to implement the guidelines for safe and effective use of pesticides; develop production and use of biological pesticides between the Department of Plant Protection and other units.

The memorandum includes 4 contents: Firstly, train and guide farmers on the safe, effective and responsible use of pesticides; prioritize the use of biological pesticides and reduce the use of chemical pesticides in the field.

Secondly, train and work with agents and traders to commit to selling pesticides with quality assurance, traceability, transparency of information and brands while instruct farmers to use pesticides responsibly, safely, effectively in compliance with regulations.

Thirdly, build production models according to value chains, models of safe and effective pesticide use in the direction of safe and ecological agriculture.

Fourthly, expand production and strengthen the development of biological pesticide products in agricultural production.

According to the commitment, two sides will coordinate to deploy 50 models of safe and effective pesticide use, covering an area of ​​​​about 100 hectares on fruit trees, potatoes, carrots until 2025....

In addition, the Department of Plant Protection and Adama Vietnam will jointly develop the registration, use of biological pesticides and provide 125 training courses for 20,000 farmers, pesticide dealers. The total cost of implementation is expected to be at around 15 billion VND.

Attending the ceremony, Mr. Hoang Trung, Director of Department of Plant Protection said that from 2021 to 2025, the Department will coordinate with businesses in propagating, disseminating and raising awareness about pesticides. 

Additionally, the Department and its affiliated units, localities will have policies and measures to encourage the participation of businesses producing and trading pesticides, using pesticides responsibly safely and effectively.

Emphasizing the orientation towards a green, safe and sustainable agriculture, contributing value to society and benefits for farmers, businesses, Director General Hoang Trung shared: "The task of the Department of Plant Protection is to stably develop production. On that basis, the Department has implemented programs such as integrated plant health management (IPHM), increase organic fertilizer use, develop biological pesticides and strictly manage the planting area codes".

Regarding Adama Vietnam in the promotion of responsible and transparent agricultural production, Director General Hoang Trung expressed his wish that through the signed cooperation, two sides will jointly create low-emissions measures towards a circular economy that is smart and adaptive to climate change. 

Minister Le Minh Hoan suggested that the effective direction in the future is to reduce input costs, professionalize production process, integrate multiple values ​​in products, take farmers as the center subject. We need to create a close connection, together towards a safe, sustainable and high-value agriculture. Hopefully localities, branches and relevant sectors will pay attention and support", Mr. Hoang Trung emphasized.

At the ceremony, Mr. Pham Van Loi, General Director of Adama Vietnam Co., Ltd., expressed that the unit has actively and creatively built many models to reduce input costs in production and consistently accompanies the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development in activities to raise farmers' awareness on the use of fertilizers and pesticides.

"Cooperating with the Department of Plant Protection is a step to concretize Adama Vietnam's ambitions in helping farmers have a greener life, helping agriculture develop sustainably," said Mr. Loi.
