According to fishermen in the coastal area of Vam Lang, Tien Giang province, the recent trip to the beach brought in outstanding revenue. The captain and his shipmates received a decent profit share from the owner.

Mr. Nguyen Van Chinh (in Quarter 1, Vam Lang town, Go Cong Dong district, Tien Giang province) has four offshore fishing vessels. He excitedly said the ships were coming ashore, and the output was also relatively good. Each trip lasts 4.5-5 months. After deducting expenses, money shared with shipmates, and finances fluctuating around VND 60-65 million per person, Mr. Chinh has a VND 600-700 million profit.

According to Mr. Chinh, from captains to fishermen, everyone knows their roles and responsibilities when going to sea and knows the State's regulations, especially those preventing IUU fishing from helping the whole country out from the list of the "Status of IUU Nations Carded" countries. "Our ships only operate from the rig and back, all equipped with cruise monitoring equipment. Contact the big machine to see if the signal is lost. If it is damaged, send a truck to shore to fix it," Mr. Chinh shared.

The government also said that when ships return to sea, they must be repaired and equipped with the necessary means and equipment following regulations. Photo: Minh Dam.

According to the People's Committee of Vam Lang town, the locality has an active fishing fleet of nearly 300 vehicles, the most compared to communes and wards in Tien Giang province. Recently, the government and local functional agencies have closely monitored and managed fishing vessels while promoting propaganda and checking compliance with regulations when exploiting the sea, not violating the marine area foreign sea.

Recently, functional agencies such as the Border Guard, the Fishing Port Management Board, and the Fisheries Branch have combined with the People's Committee of Vam Lang town to propagate the implementation of IUU regulations for fishermen regularly. 100% of Vam Lang's fishing vessels have been registered, inspected, installed trip monitoring equipment, and reported.

The locality still has more than 150 ships lying ashore for a long time, but the Town People's Committee has taken photos and recorded the ship's mooring location. The government also said that when ships return to sea, they must be repaired and equipped with the necessary means and equipment, following regulations. Thanks to that, over the years, the activities of fishing vessels of fishermen in Vam Lang town have been very stable without violating IUU.

The Ministry of National Defense's working delegation led by Major General Vu Trung Kien, Deputy Commander of Law of the Vietnam Coast Guard, had an inspection session on the implementation of the Project 'Propaganda and Dissemination of the Vietnam Coast Guard Law in the 2019-2023' in Tien Giang province. Mr. Huynh Thanh Toan, Secretary of the Party Committee and Chairman of the People's Committee of Vam Lang town, said that the locality has a firm grasp of offshore fishing boats. In particular, for ships over 15m long, the locality coordinates with Kieng Phuoc Border Guard Station to closely monitor, especially installing cruise monitoring equipment. Particularly for vehicles that lose signal, the locality will work with the vehicle owner to fix it immediately. When anchoring in the area, fishing vessels from other localities are also propagated and inspected by the authorities and functional agencies for compliance with IUU laws and regulations.

Previously, on November 15, a working delegation of the Ministry of National Defense led by Major General Vu Trung Kien, Deputy Commander of Law of the Vietnam Coast Guard, had an inspection session on implementing the Project " Propaganda of the Law on Coast Guard period 2019-2023" in Tien Giang province.

Through listening to the reports of the People's Committee of Go Cong Dong district and the People's Committee of Tien Giang province and inspecting the reality in Vam Lang town, Major General Vu Trung Kien recognized and highly appreciated the agencies, units, and localities that had many achievements. Methods and measures to implement the Project are appropriate to the characteristics of the local situation. In particular, the authorities pay attention, direct, and create conditions for coastal localities to consolidate their bookshelves and legal bookshelves, promptly supplementing documents related to the Vietnam Coast Guard Law to meet the needs of people's inquiries.

Major General Vu Trung Kien requested that Tien Giang province continue to pay attention to leading and directing agencies, units, localities, and people in the area to coordinate, help, and create favorable conditions for the Ministry of National Defense to speak. The Vietnam Coast Guard has generally completed their assigned functions and tasks. Thereby firmly protecting the sovereignty of the sea and islands and ensuring security, order, and safety.

Recently, the fishing industry has sometimes encountered difficulties due to weather and rising fuel prices. Still, fishermen in Vam Lang town, mainly fishermen in the Mekong Delta and the whole country, have made great efforts to put their ships out to sea. Fishing achieves high yields, ensuring life and contributing to protecting the sacred sovereignty of the sea and islands of the Fatherland.
