Binh Dinh rushes to issue planting area codes for agro-products

(VAN) With the increasingly open trend of exporting agro-products, Binh Dinh is rushing to issue and manage planting area codes.

The goal is to increase the income of farmers

In mid-October, the People's Committee of Binh Dinh province assigned the Provincial Plant Protection Sub-Department to urgently implement the plan to grant and manage the planting area codes in the region. Accordingly, Binh Dinh Plant Protection Sub-Department organizes training and guides the process of granting, managing, and monitoring the use of planting area codes throughout the area. This is a stepping stone so that the planting area codes will be issued from the beginning of 2023.

According to Mr. Kieu Van Cang, Director of the Binh Dinh lant Protection Sub-Department, the whole province has currently been granted 10 planting area codes for fresh mangoes, watermelons, and chili peppers. However, in practice, the issued planting area codes have not been effective. To put an end to the situation of owning the planting area code but not promoting it, the agricultural sector in Binh Dinh is urgently reviewing and checking the management and use of the planting area code at the grassroots level.

“Through inspection, the Binh Dinh Plant Protection Sub-Department proposed the Plant Protection Sub-Department to cancel some planting area codes that are no longer eligible. It also suggests the Plant Protection Sub-Department adjust information on the area of some planting area codes", said Mr. Kieu Van Cang.

According to Mr. Cang, to implement the issuance of planting area codes in early 2023, Binh Dinh Plant Protection Sub-Department is currently coordinating with specialized agencies of localities in the province. They are reviewing the area of key crops and strong plants to develop a plan for granting planting area codes.

The functional sector also guides localities to actively select and orient the granting of planting area codes to farmers. The functional sector will participate more closely in the monitoring process to facilitate the users of the planting area codes. The implementation right from the grassroots helps the functional sector to select and plan large enough planting areas, apply the same production process, and control the farming process to aim for high-quality products.

“Currently, the database on planting area codes has been transparent and transparent with information from central to local. On that basis, if the areas specializing in high-quality agro-products are well organized, Binh Dinh will have more opportunities to attract businesses to the chain of production and consumption of agro-products", Mr. Kieu Van Cang affirmed.

The link between the production and consumption of agro-products in Binh Dinh has long faced many risks, and the scale of the association is not large enough for businesses to invest. Building a planting area code based on the same criteria will help save costs, facilitate management and control, and form a sustainable link chain. Consequently, the good management of the planting area code creates favorable conditions from farming and harvesting to consuming agro-products, raising people's incomes.

"Giving wings" to agro-products.

Hoai An, a midland district of Binh Dinh province, is very excited about the planting area code because there are many agro-products in this district with export orientation. Hoai An signed a contract with Chan Hung Sinh Loi Agricultural Investment Group Joint Stock Company (HCMC) on the consumption of agro-products, mainly fruit trees.

Analyzing the advantages of planting area codes, Mr. Vo Duy Tin, Head of MARD Department of Hoai An district, shared: “Hoai An is developing a concentrated fruit-growing area with a scale of 1,500 ha. 40 ha of fruit trees conforming to VietGAP standards have entered the business period, generating a stable profit of VND150 million/ha/year. In addition, Hoai An has successfully connected with some potential businesses to link the consumption of agro-products and is aiming to export key agro-products. With the planting area code, The fruit production area of the district will create cohesion for the connection of agro-product consumption, making them more sustainable".

Simultaneously, Phu My district is also very eager to have the planting area code for chili, the main crop in this local agricultural production.

Mr. Tran Minh Tuan, Head of the MARD Department of Phu My district, said that in the coming time, Phu My will continue to maintain the 1,200-ha area specializing in chili cultivation. Because the demand from growers is very high, the agricultural sector of Phu My is urgently reviewing to register the development of a growing area code for chili. At the same time, the sector guides farmers on farming techniques following VietGAP standards to attract chili exporters to participate in production and consumption linkages.

“In the immediate future, Phu My district authorities will guide people to cultivate VietGAP chili peppers to improve product quality; plan concentrated chili growing areas to facilitate the development of dossiers of planting area codes. This is an important basis for businesses to join associations or organize product purchases," said Mr. Tuan.

According to Mr. Tuan, the chili output of Phu My district is quite large, with enough quality and quantity for official export. This is a suitable direction to stabilize production and gradually reduce dependence on unstable exports through unofficial channels.

“Planting area codes not only “give” wings to agro-products, but also help producers consciously comply with the process. They ensure the safety and quality of products, thereby creating safe agro-products that are qualified to meet the regulations of many export markets", Mr. Kieu Van Cang, Director of Binh Dinh Plantation and Plant Protection Sub-Department, affirmed.
