After attending the Vietnam Fruit Festival in Beijing, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Binh, Chairman of the Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association (Vinafruit) stated that China has long been the largest export market of Vietnamese fruits.

Over the past years, Vietnam has exported a wide range of fruits to China, including dragon fruit, durian, mango, banana, and watermelon.

Fruit exports to China recently increased at a fast speed. In 2023, fruit and vegetable exports of Vietnam reached USD 5.6 billion, in which China made up for USD 3.6 billion, accounting for 65%.

In the first eight months of 2024, the exports of fruits and vegetables to China continued to grow strongly, reaching over USD 3 billion, nearly equaling the export to this market for the whole of 2023, with fruits accounting for the majority of the trade volume. This indicates that fruit exports to the Chinese market are still experiencing robust growth.

However, despite Vietnam's increasing fruit exports to China, which amount to billions of USD annually, consumers in Beijing still have limited access to Vietnamese fruits. This highlights the vast size of the fruit market in China and areas where Vietnamese fruits have yet to reach, especially in Beijing and northern provinces.

According to Mr. Binh, at the Vietnam Fruit Festival held in Beijing in September, many local residents and fruit businesses showed great interest and actively participated in the event, enjoying Vietnamese fruits. After tasting them, people commented on the good taste and high quality of Vietnamese fruits, yet they are rarely seen for sale in Beijing. Both Beijing residents and those in northern China are eager to have more Vietnamese fruits available in this region.

Having also participated in the Vietnam Fruit Festival in Beijing, Mr. Nguyen Dinh Tung, CEO of Vina T&T, shared that the company has long desired to bring Vietnamese fruits to various regions in China, including Beijing and northern provinces. Therefore, upon being informed about the Ministry of Industry and Trade and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development jointly organizing the Vietnam Fruit Festival in Beijing, the company was very excited and immediately registered to participate.

When Vina T&T showcased Vietnamese fruits at the event, Beijing residents showed great appreciation for the company's fruits, especially for durian and coconut. Some businesses in Beijing have already discussed immediate cooperation opportunities with Vina T&T, especially since fresh Vietnamese coconuts have been allowed into the Chinese market.

As a result, Vina T&T has identified significant potential in the northern Chinese market. Consequently, the company has set a priority goal for the last three months of 2024 and 2025 to intensify fruit exports to northern China, aiming to reach a large number of consumers who are eager to easily and regularly purchase and consume Vietnamese fruits.
