From the results of the cow herd improvement program in Quang Tri province that has been implemented in recent years, in 2023, Quang Tri Agricultural Extension Center builds an intensive beef cattle breeding model. This is to ensure disease safety in order to open up a new direction of concentrated cow husbandry on the farm scale, ensuring environmental sanitation in a sustainable way.

The model is deployed in Linh An village, Trieu Trach commune, Trieu Phong district with a scale of 10 children. The cows brought into farming are specialized beef breeds (BBB cows) with an average age of 12 months. Implementing the model, Quang Tri Agricultural Extension Center has conducted a survey to select sites and households based on registration meetings, reviews and actual survey processes of households with economic, human and breeding conditions consistent with the model's criteria.

Deploying the model, the Center supported 50% of materials and the technical staff of the Center conducted training, instructing households and herders in the area to raise beef cattle intensively. Consequently, households have applied good hygiene and disease prevention and appropriate diets for each animal. The model will be deployed within 10 months, from January 15, 2023, to November 15, 2023. Currently, after more than 5 months of rearing, the average weight of cows is nearly 440kg/head. The average weight gain was 1.28kg/cow/day. Cows grow and develop well.

Mr. Nguyen Van Tung from Linh An village (Trieu Trach commune) who implemented the model said, thanks to the application of the intensive beef cattle raising process according to the technical process of the agricultural extension staff, his family's cows have a much bigger stature and weight gain than the previous grow method.

During the rearing process, Mr. Tung said that thanks to careful care and the right diet, the beef cows grow quickly, the muscles develop, the most prominent is the buttocks muscle with a beautiful appearance...

According to Resolution 162/2021 of the People's Council of Quang Tri province on supporting the development of some crops and livestock to create key products with competitive advantages, from 2022 to 2026, cows are the livestock object that Quang Tri province cares about and supports for investment.

Director of the Quang Tri Agricultural Extension Center, Mr. Tran Can said, with the attention and support from the Provincial People's Committee and the Department of MARD, over the years, the Center has continuously implemented a program to rehabilitate cows. The demonstration models of intensive beef cattle raising and fattening to ensure biosecurity have helped farmers to learn and replicate; help farmers understand the benefits of breeding stock. This also helps farmers to apply technical measures to care, nurture, and raise breeding cows and intensive beef cattle as well as measures to prevent and treat diseases for cows

In addition, the models also contribute to changing livestock practices from extensive farming to intensive and managed investment. Thanks to good implementation, the quality of cows is increasingly improved, bringing a great source of income for farmers.

Mr. Nguyen Phu Quoc, Deputy Director of the Quang Tri Department of MARD, said that the province's agriculture sector identifies beef cattle as the main livestock. The Department also has been implementing solutions to increase competitive advantage for beef cattle in the province.

In addition to improving the stature of the cow herd, the province has been strongly shifting towards intensive beef cattle raising using foreign cow semen; implementing captive breeding in barns, apply technical processes. In addition to forage, the province also combines concentrates to improve the value of intensive cattle raising...
