Bayer Vietnam Company, in collaboration with Anh Duong Community Development and Support Center, has just organized a charity event in Hau Giang within the framework of the project “Improving living conditions for disadvantaged households in Hau Giang in 2022-2023” to support disadvantaged households in the locality.
Bayer Vietnam volunteers spent a day visiting disadvantaged households with volunteer activities such as planting crops, installing clean water purification equipment, or installing biogas systems for households in need of support. At the same time, on this volunteer day, there was a training session to improve knowledge for local people on women’s health and public health performed by medical experts, in collaboration with the Anh Duong Community Development and Support Center and local government.
According to Ms. Ho Thi Kim Chuc, Director of the Anh Duong Community Development and Support Center, this project is practical and becomes more meaningful in the context that local communities are facing many economic challenges, especially after the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Anh Duong Community Development and Support Center is a local NGO that implements the project in the following districts: Long My, Phung Hiep, and Hau Giang provinces. The Center was established on September 30, 2008, and registered by the Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations (VUSTA). Anh Duong aims for a just and equal society, helping poor people in remote areas overcome life’s difficulties as well as improve living conditions more sustainably. The Center’s cross-cutting criteria are to prioritize helping the really poor by taking an integrated approach to comprehensive development (economics, health, life, education, etc.). Especially activities that focus on economics and sustainability.
Over the past few years, the project has deployed three main activities: The first activity is the project on supporting livelihoods, including seeds, farm tools, equipment, and technical training for disadvantaged households to start a farming business.
The second activity is to improve the lives of especially disadvantaged households with incomes below the poverty line for better access to safe housing, clean water, community health services, and school opportunities for children. The third activity is knowledge training on topics of health, self-care, and family planning for women. The project sets a goal of supporting and improving the lives of 500 individuals and households.
Up to now, more than 135 households and 300 local women have benefited from the project. According to the report, households covered by the program have increased their annual income by at least 25%.
Ms. Ha Thanh Phuong’s family in hamlet 6, Thuan Hung commune, Long My town, has experienced many difficulties in life. Her husband suffers from valvular heart disease and asthma, and her child is suffering from a mental illness, leaving her with considerable burdens to support her family. With her difficult family situation, Ms. Phuong was visited by Bayer Company and Anh Duong Community Development and Support Center, which donated rice sugar and fish sauce.
Small but meaningful gifts have given her hope and motivation to overcome difficulties in life. She could not hide her emotional tears when she expressed her sincere thanks to Bayer Company and the Anh Duong Community Development and Support Center. She and her family sincerely thank you and hope that these volunteer activities will continue to be maintained and developed to help disadvantaged families have a better life.
Participating in the project with volunteers from the company, Mr. Ingo Brandenburg, General Director of Bayer Vietnam, emphasized: At Bayer, we believe that our contribution is to create a prosperous, developed society in the future, and it is very important to create value in different ways.
