Bac Lieu aspires to become the 'hub' of the country's shrimp industry

(VAN) Bac Lieu is determined to become the country's leading 'center' of the shrimp industry. The province has completed the first stage and is now preparing to invest in the second.

The 'heart' of the country's shrimp business

According to Mr. Le Tan Can, Bac Lieu provincial authority, to develop Bac Lieu into the 'hub' of the country's shrimp industry and achieve the Prime Minister's expectations, the province must complete these key objectives.

To begin, successfully executing Provincial Committee Resolution No. 6 on boosting the development of high-tech agriculture toward sustainability and adaptation to climate change between 2021 and 2025.

Second, continue to implement the plan for "transforming Bac Lieu into the "center" of the country's shrimp business. Additionally, producers will be encouraged to adopt the two-stage shrimp farming method. Conducting environmental monitoring and warnings for aquaculture farming ponds and supply routes.

Thirdly, bolster state management of the quality of supplies used in aquaculture production and the environment; quarantine, disease control, and breed quality. Consolidating and promoting high-quality and healthy shrimp production to fulfill the province's and other areas' need for shrimp output.

Following that, strengthening production associated with the processing, preservation, and consumption of seafood products; organizing production along the value chain for staple seafood products; adopting advanced technologies to increase the production efficiency and competitiveness of shrimp products both domestically and internationally.

Fifth, scaling up ultra-intense, intensive, and semi-intensive shrimp farming; developing an eco-shrimp farming model in combination with reforestation, as well as a shrimp-rice model.

Developing organic aquaculture areas with essential products, establishing plans for the implementation and issuing of aquaculture area identification numbers, pond codes, and fishing traceability. Simultaneously, expand production of "fragrant rice and clean shrimp."

Sixth, coordinating key units, local authorities, and citizens to establish high-tech agricultural cooperatives in the fisheries sector (1-2 cooperatives); branding, establishment, and development of the Bac Lieu shrimp brand for provincial shrimp goods.

Apart from the aforementioned responsibilities, Bac Lieu is expected to invest in a project of water control and supplementation works for aquaculture in the province's southern section of National Highway 1A. To encourage investment in aquaculture and concentrated aquaculture-producing regions' infrastructure.

Simultaneously, it calls for attracting investment in high-tech, clean, organic, and safe seed production, shrimp farming, and processing; organizing production through cooperatives and cooperatives; establishing production links along the value chain, and connecting production with consumption of shrimp products.

Mr. Pham Hoang Minh, director of Bac Lieu Shrimp Development High-Tech Agricultural Zone, stated that the project has already completed phase I of the Bac Lieu shrimp development agricultural zone's technological infrastructure. Simultaneously, nine firms have been chosen to invest in the Zone, with plans to expand in phase 2. Continue to facilitate the selection of businesses and organizations with significant resources to invest in the Zone.

Following Tet, it will recommend to the Bac Lieu Provincial People's Committee that a preliminary conference be held for the two-year implementation of the project "Building Bac Lieu to become the national center of shrimp industry" (scheduled for the first quarter of 2022), to assess the results achieved, the advantages, the difficulties, the limited causes that exist, and the solutions to organize implementation in the coming time so that by 2025 Bac Lieu will become the national center of the shrimp industry.

Comprehensively developing new rural areas

Mr. Le Tan Can, Vice Chairman of the Bac Lieu Provincial People's Committee, stated: "At the start of the year 2022, the Bac Lieu Provincial People's Committee instructed the agriculture sector to carry out several significant duties." The primary objective is to accelerate agricultural sector restructuring and rural economic development by increasing production associated with processing, preserving, and consuming agricultural products, as well as by organizing production along the value chain with other key agricultural products, by utilizing advanced technology, and by increasing the efficiency of shrimp and rice production.

Additionally, emphasize the establishment and development of additional big fields and the establishment of a relationship between rice consumption and production. Establishing geographical indications and trademarks, as well as cultivating high-quality rice and shrimp brands under the Bac Lieu brand.

Additionally, the Vice Chairman of the Bac Lieu Provincial People's Committee brought up the topic of comprehensive and sustainable new rural building in conjunction with urbanization. It is critical to enhance the quality of criteria for establishing new villages and to progress toward the establishment of enhanced new rural areas and model new rural areas.
