Australia's largest rice corporation continues to expand investment in Vietnam

(VAN) On the afternoon of March 8, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh had a meeting with Mr. Paul Serra, CEO of SunRice in Australia.

SunRice is Australia's largest rice production and distribution group, accounting for about 90% of the Australian rice market share. By now, the Group has developed many activities throughout the rice production and supply chain with more than 30 brands and more than 2,000 employees in 50 countries. In 2023, the SunRice's revenue will reach about US$ 1.64 billion.

From 2022 up to now, SunRice has been coordinating with the Australian Center for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR) to implement the project "Developing high-quality rice supply chains in the Mekong Delta" to develop high-yielding varieties, sustainable productivity, and quality serving the international consumer market.

At the meeting, SunRice's leader congratulated Vietnam on upgrading relations with Australia and discussed plans to expand investment in Vietnam in the near future. SunRice highly appreciates the implementation of the 1 million hectares of low-emission, high-quality rice program in the Mekong Delta.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh congratulated and appreciated SunRice's effective investment and business cooperation activities in general and in Vietnam in particular in recent times.

With its network and influence, the Prime Minister hopes that the Group will support connecting Vietnamese partners with Australian partners to strengthen cooperation in the agricultural sector between the two countries in the coming time towards green production, healthy competition with other partners, and promoting e-commerce.

The Prime Minister hopes that SunRice, with its experience, resources and reputation, will continue to expand investment and participate in supporting the development of the rice supply chain in Vietnam in the coming time. In particular, increase technology transfer, cooperate with domestic businesses, work directly with farmers, stabilize output and input, build warehouses, and contribute to improving production efficiency, the added value and quality of Vietnamese rice products to meet the needs of consumers worldwide, supporting bringing Vietnamese products more profound into the global supply chain, especially in the Halal food industry, creating livelihoods, improving people's lives, and promoting socio-economic development in general.

In addition to rice, the Prime Minister asked SunRice to research and expand its activities with other agricultural products that are abundant in different regions of Vietnam, such as fruits and seafood; Long-term, stable and sustainable investment in the spirit of harmonious benefits and shared risks.
