Towards fishermen affected by storm No.3

On September 10, in Ho Chi Minh City, the Vietnam Fisheries Society (VINAFIS) and the International Cooperation Center for Sustainable Aquaculture and Fisheries (ICAFIS), in collaboration with Informa Markets Group, held a press conference to inform about the international exhibition specializing in fisheries in Vietnam (Aquaculture Vietnam 2024).

Nguyen Viet Thang, Chairman of the Vietnam Fisheries Association, said that in the past 8 months, Vietnam's fisheries have developed very well, in line with the industry's strategic orientation and goals. As of August 2024, the output of exploited and farmed fisheries reached over 5.5 million tons of fish, and seafood exports reached over USD 6.2 billion.

With the momentum of export growth and development in aquaculture, Vietnam can expect to achieve the target of increasing seafood export turnover in 2024, exceeding the set target.

However, storm No.3 (Yagi) caused much damage to the northern provinces, especially coastal provinces such as Quang Ninh, Hai Phong, Thanh Hoa, and Nam Dinh... which were significantly affected by damage to aquaculture cages.

"Vietnam Fisheries Society in Quang Ninh and Hai Phong provinces said that 99% of aquaculture was destroyed after Typhoon Yagi. Some boats drifted, some floated, some sank. Cages, oyster farms, and mollusk farms were especially swept away. It is excruciating. Fishermen are currently facing many difficulties. Therefore, the seminars within this exhibition's framework will focus on recovering aquaculture after the storm, especially providing solutions and directions for good aquaculture, less affected by natural disasters for long-term sustainable development", said Nguyen Viet Thang.

Nguyen Viet Thang also said he has sent a letter calling on the fisheries associations of provinces/cities to join hands to support fishermen in storm and flood areas. At the same time, within the framework of this exhibition, he will ask the Organizing Committee for the Vietnam Fisheries Humanitarian Fund to call for support for people in the provinces that suffered damage in the recent typhoon No.3.

Aquaculture Vietnam 2024 is expected to attract 4,000 visitors

According to Thang, Aquaculture Vietnam brings together large enterprises and corporations with qualifications and experience in the seafood industry in Vietnam and worldwide. Thereby, helping to promote the seafood industry, especially aquaculture.

Rungphech (Rose) Chitanuwat, ASEAN Project Director at Informa Markets, said Aquaculture Vietnam was first held in Vietnam in 2016. The event has contributed to helping visitors access the entire seafood value chain, from farming and fishing to processing.

Aquaculture Vietnam 2024 brings together more than 100 exhibitors and is expected to attract about 4,000 visitors from more than 20 countries/territories.

"The event brings together leaders and experts in the aquaculture industry from many countries/regions, becoming a destination to promote cooperation and innovation and shape the development of the aquaculture industry.

In addition, it provides solutions to promote the aquaculture and fisheries industry towards innovation and sustainable development in the face of the challenge of climate change, especially in the context of the global move towards reducing greenhouse gas emissions," said Rungphech (Rose) Chitanuwat.

Within the framework of the Exhibition, the 6th International Aquaculture Conference will also take place with the theme "Reducing greenhouse gas emissions and developing a green economy in aquaculture" with 5 thematic sessions.

The highlight of this exhibition is the Biosecurity Asia Forum, which focuses on orientations, methods, and ways to implement biosecurity - the core value of sustainable development in the aquaculture and livestock industry.

"This is not only an opportunity for businesses and aquaculture households to exchange and learn from each other, but also an opportunity for businesses to get closer to their target customers, promote and increase brand awareness," said a representative of Informa Markets Group.

The Aquaculture Vietnam 2024 and Vietstock exhibitions, organized by Informa Markets, will be held simultaneously at the Saigon Exhibition and Convention Center (SECC) from October 9 to 11. This event promises to be a comprehensive showcase of the livestock and aquaculture value chain, paving the way for future industry growth and global connections.
