Applying world technology in improving color chickens at Dabaco

Utilizing environment factors

Located in Southeast Asia, Vietnam is considered the hometown of many color chicken varieties that have diverse sources of rare dominant genes. Color chicken breeds such as Ho chicken,  Cane chicken, Ri chicken, Noi chicken,… are all indigenous breeds with delicious meat quality, enduring vitality, resistance to harsh weather according to each region's characteristics. However, after the war and epidemics..., the number of color chickens is facing a sharp decline as some long-standing rare genes have not been preserved and developed in time.

Upon grasping the situation, in recent years, Dabaco Breeding Chicken Company Limited has selected, restored and purely propagated some domestic breeds such as Ho chicken,  Cane Son Tay chicken, Noi chicken, nine-spurred chicken,... These breeds have achieved remarkable results in the initial development, improving carcass quality, improving growth time, increasing egg weight and yield, improving the genetics of domestic breeds. At the same time, Dabaco's color chicken breed has been promoting economic efficiency for breeders across the country.

In order to determine potential genetic traits of each breed in a specific breeding environment, Dabaco Breeding Chicken Company Limited has separated, researched and evaluated based on distinctive lines and breeds. The previous same Cane Son Tay chicken, after having been imported, the company conducted propagation, pure selection in large numbers. After that, they selected and divided into 2 main groups: the hens that focused on egg production and the male chicken group that focused on growing. These two lines will have different raising conditions in terms of light, food, diet, temperature... which is suitable for the growth and development needs of the breed in each specific period.

The achieved results

It can be said that the investment environment and professionalism have had a great influence on the genetic improvement progress of the native color chicken breed. The results from the  Cane chicken breed studies are clear evidence. After being divided into two lines of chickens and raised under different conditions, the  Cane breed has been significantly improved in terms of weight, quality of meat, and yield of eggs. Some specific results achieved after 5 generations are as follows:

Dabaco's Cane line yield is 181 eggs/64 weeks old. This productivity is completely equivalent to the production achievements of high-yielding broilers of China and other countries in the region. Meanwhile, according to Vietnamese livestock Atlas, mature Cane roosters weigh 3kg, hens weigh 2.3kg and egg production is 50-60 eggs/hen/year.

Currently, Dabaco Breeding Chicken Company Limited has been keeping and selecting more than 10 purebred chicken lines with outstanding traits. Along with owning an advanced research center, a professional original breeding center, Dabaco has always been proactive in researching, crossbreeding and developing a variety of commercial chicken breeds with outstanding productivity, reaching regional and international levels, making diverse differences.
