Airbus supports Vietnam's Planting One Billion Trees campaign, contributing to mangrove reforestation

(VAN) Airbus Vietnam sponsored 1.500 mangrove apple trees to be planted on one hectare of forest in the Thai Thuy Wetland Nature Reserve, Thai Binh Province.

On April 10, Airbus Vietnam, in collaboration with the Center for Natural Resources and Environment Communication (Ministry of Agriculture and Environment) and the People's Committee of Thai Binh Province, organized the tree-planting ceremony “Airbus in action with the Planting One Billion Trees campaign” at the Thai Thuy Wetland Nature Reserve in Thai Binh.

Mr. Olivier Brochet – Ambassador of the French Republic to Vietnam, Ms. Hoang Tri Mai – General Director of Airbus Vietnam, Mr. Nguyen Viet Dung – Director of the Center for Natural Resources and Environment Communication, along with representatives of coordinating units, presented a symbolic tree to the leaders of Thuy Xuan Commune and the management board of the nature reserve. The tree-planting activity aims to contribute to the protection of the mangrove ecosystem, the conservation of biodiversity, especially for migratory and threatened waterbird species, and the development of sustainable livelihoods for local communities. Through this project, Airbus Vietnam emphasizes the role of local communities living near the forest, particularly members of the Thuy Xuan Commune Women’s Union in Thai Thuy District, who have played a key role in reforestation efforts over the years.

Speaking at the event, Mr. Olivier Brochet, Ambassador of France to Vietnam, shared: “France and Vietnam share a common concern about climate change and are strengthening cooperation in many areas. The year 2025 marks the 10th anniversary of the global Climate Change Conference (COP21)—a milestone event that introduced the Paris Agreement with very specific goals for countries around the world in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and adapting to climate change."

The tree-planting event was symbolic and is expected to inspire the spread of concrete actions and practical models to other localities. In particular, wetland areas like Thai Thuy play a crucial role in wave protection, coping with rising sea levels, and providing a habitat for many endemic species.

Mr. Do Quy Phuong, Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Thai Binh Province, shared: “As part of the implementation of the Planting One Billion Trees campaign, from 2021 to the present, the entire province has planted 6.26 million trees of various kinds. This achievement has significantly contributed to creating green spaces in residential areas, developing coastal forests, and enhancing biodiversity in the province's wetland nature reserves".

In the first months of 2025 alone, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, in coordination with the People's Committee of Thai Binh Province and sponsors, carried out two tree-planting drives at the Thai Thuy Wetland Nature Reserve, planting a total of 10,000 trees. Today’s planting of 1,500 trees continues to build on and extend the province’s achievements in forest development and protection.

Ms. Hoang Tri Mai, General Director of Airbus in Vietnam, affirmed: “Airbus is incredibly proud to join hands in supporting environmental protection efforts and participate in Vietnam’s Planting One Billion Trees Campaign. This initiative is a powerful example of how the collaboration between the government, businesses, and local communities can create positive and lasting change. From small individual actions, we can build a large-scale movement that addresses the global challenge of climate change".

Mr. Nguyen Viet Dung, Director of the Center for Natural Resources and Environment Communication, stated: “The reforestation activities carried out by the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment have received strong and positive support from both local authorities and the local community. The newly planted forest areas not only meet the planning criteria but also align with the broader goals of ecosystem restoration, biodiversity conservation, and providing sustainable livelihoods for the local population. Evidence of this is the abundant aquatic resources in these areas, which continue to provide income for the local population".

After the launch ceremony, delegates, local residents, forest rangers, and youth union members joined together to plant trees in the coastal sandbank area. The newly planted areas will be continuously nurtured to ensure they thrive and expand, gradually increasing the green coverage in the wetland regions. Over time, these forests will not only help to enhance the local environment but also serve as a natural barrier, protecting the local community from coastal erosion and the impacts of climate change.
