On November 11, at Nguyen Khuyen Secondary and High School (Da Nang City), the launching ceremony for the 54th UPU International Letter-Writing Competition took place, with Vietnam Post providing coverage.

The event was organized by the Ministry of Information and Communications in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Training, the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union, the Vietnam Writers Association, Vietnam Post, and Youth Pioneer & Children Newspaper.

The 2025 competition theme is: “Imagine you are the ocean. Write a letter to someone explaining why and how they should take good care of you”.

According to Mr. Bui Hoang Phuong, Deputy Minister of Information and Communications and Head of the competition’s organizing committee, it is very meaningful for students to sit down, take the time to write a letter, and express their thoughts with carefully written lines on paper.

These letters have a profound impact on students and younger generations, encouraging them to reflect on significant global issues and share the voices and ideas of the youth for solutions.

In the 35 years of Vietnam’s participation in the UPU International Letter-Writing Competition, the country has won 17 awards, including five international awards from students in Da Nang, a source of pride for Vietnamese students in general and especially for those in Da Nang.

Notably, Nguyen Do Quang Minh, a student at Nguyen Khuyen School (Da Nang), won first place nationally in the 53rd UPU International Letter-Writing Competition. This is also why Da Nang was chosen to host this year’s launch ceremony.

The competition is open to Vietnamese students aged 9 to 15 (as of the date the letter is submitted).

Each entry must be the student’s original work, written in prose according to the competition’s theme (not previously published in newspapers or books) and no more than 800 words. Entries written in a foreign language must be accompanied by a Vietnamese translation, as judging will be based on the Vietnamese version. The letter should be neatly handwritten on one side of the paper.

Each letter must be placed in an envelope with a postage stamp, including the sender's and recipient's addresses with postal code (11611), and sent via Vietnam Post’s postal system. The envelope should clearly state: "Entry for the 54th UPU International Letter-Writing Competition (2025).”

Submission address: Youth Pioneer & Children Newspaper, No. 5, Hoa Ma Street, Pham Dinh Ho Ward, Hai Ba Trung District, Hanoi.

Submission deadline: From November 11, 2024, to March 5, 2025 (postmarked).
