According to the Ministry of Industry and Trade, rice export in 2020 reached 6.15 million tons, worth about US$3.07 billion. Although the amount of rice exported decreased by about 3.5% compared to 2019, mainly for the purpose of ensuring national food security, the export value increased by 9.3%, returning to the highest recognized value of US$3 billion after just one year.
The average export price of 2020 was estimated at US$499/ton, an increase of 13.3% compared to 2019. This is the highest annual average price in recent years, bringing great benefits to rice growers.
