On Jan 13, at Trung An Agricultural High-Tech Joint Stock Company (Can Tho), a ceremony was held to announce the export of the first rice batches in 2021 to some countries including Malaysia and Singapore.

Commenting on this event, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Le Quoc Doanh said: In recent years, Vietnam has constantly been promoting the process of deep and comprehensive international economic integration. Vietnam has signed and implemented 15 Free Trade Agreements, and two other agreements are under negotiation process.

In order to synchronously implement international commitments across the country, in recent years, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has drafted, revised and submitted to the Government and the National Assembly a series of legal documents to be consistent with international practices, covering agricultural trade in general and rice products in particular.

A ceremony was held to announce the export of the first batches of Vietnam rice in 2021 to some countries including Malaysia and Singapore.

This event proved to be of positive significance in the context that we just signed the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) on November 15, 2020, which includes 10 ASEAN member countries and 5 countries that has signed Free trade agreement with ASEAN.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development highly appreciated the efforts of Trung An High-Tech Agriculture Joint Stock Company, one of the leading enterprises in the country in the field of rice production, processing and export.

Deputy Minister Le Quoc Doanh also suggested that localities and businesses need to pay attention to developing organic agricultural products, clean agricultural products that bring high economic value and ensure environmental friendliness.

At the same time, there is also a need to increase processing in order to create added value, jobs and make the best use of tariff preferences thanks to the current trade liberalization agreements for agricultural products.

Enterprises need to work closely with the State and farmers to ensure export conditions such as origin of goods, labels, food hygiene and safety, traceability ... to expand the export market.

New opportunities for the new year

Mr. Pham Thai Binh, Director of Trung An High-Tech Agriculture Joint Stock Company, said: Today (Jan 13) at Trung An's export rice production and processing zone, the first 2 batches in 2021 will be packed, exporting about 300-400 tons to Malaysia and Singapore.

Jasmine 85 fragrant rice (US$ 680/ton) and Huong Lai rice (US$ 750/ton) were exported under the contracts signed at the beginning of the year, according to which, the total volume of rice export to Malaysia is 1,150 tons, Singapore 450 tons and Germany 3,000 tons.

According to Mr. Binh, the participation of Trung An High-Tech Agriculture Joint Stock Company in the project implementation has proved to be of great significance in rice production under a new process to eliminate 100% of pesticides, plant protection chemicals and use only bio-products and organic fertilizers instead.

In this way, rice products will meet all food safety standards and the requirements of any demanding markets, especially after signing free trade agreements (FTAs) with other countries, more opportunities will open for Vietnamese rice.
